Much of the work David does is based in Westminster, where as well as fighting for the constituents of Monmouth he takes parts in debates that will ultimately decide what laws are placed into the statute books. Offender Management Bill

The Offender Management Bill is currently passing through Parliament, the majority of which deals with the privatisation of the probation service.

However, I was very disturbed to read that part of the legislation will allow for young offenders to be released from custody before the halfway point of their sentence, and also that unsecured children’s homes will be used to incarcerate young thugs.

The NHS in Wales

When I first came to Westminster one of my main tasks was to highlight areas of Welsh Assembly Governance which I found to be lacking.

Transport in Wales

My first big political speech in the House of Commons related to the Transport for Wales Bill. This was a good forum to bring up local issues relating to speed limits and traffic congestion.

Maiden Speech

Before an M.P. is allowed to get involved in political debates in the House of Commons chamber they must fist give their Maiden Speech, which is basically a “getting to know you” talk so everyone knows who you are.

I wanted to get this done as quickly as possible so I could get involved in the action, and I was the first of the new Conservative MPs to do so, 13 days after the General Election on May 18th 2005.
