The search is on for Britain’s best small shop – and Monmouth MP David Davies wants local retailers to put themselves forward for national recognition.
After a hiatus of four years, the Best Small Shops Competition is back. Run by the All Party Parliamentary Small Shops Group, the competition celebrates the commercial powerhouse represented by small retailers in the UK economy.
Mr Davies is hoping small shops across the constituency will participate and is calling for nominations.
“We’re extremely fortunate to have a large number of fantastic small shops in Monmouthshire and Torfaen,” said Mr Davies.
“They give our high streets character and variety and are at the heart of our communities.
“This competition is a great opportunity for small shops in the constituency, from Abergavenny, Usk and Monmouth to Chepstow, Croesyceiliog and Ponthir, to receive recognition for the brilliant work they do providing vital services all year round and creating local jobs.”
Retailers can submit their application via www.bestsmallshops.uk setting out in no more than 500 words why they believe they are the UK’s best small shop. Areas shops will be judged on include innovation in your business, community engagement and entrepreneurial activity.
The deadline for applications is 4pm on 30th January 2015. All shortlisted candidates will be invited to a parliamentary reception where the winner will be announced on 25th February 2015.
