David Davies MP celebrated the contribution of local independent traders as part of the second annual Small Business Saturday on 6th December.
Mr Davies visited businesses in Monmouth in a show of support for the UK-wide initiative, on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
Small Business Saturday is a grassroots campaign which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’.
“It is important that we support small businesses all year round,” said Mr Davies.
“They are the heart of the local community and form the backbone of the UK economy. While Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity to showcase independent traders, it should not be a standalone event and we need to use local high street shops and businesses on a day-to-day basis.
“Monmouthshire is the food capital of Wales. Our farm shops, greengrocers and butchers offer amazing local produce and the county is renowned for its independent restaurants and cafés. When you walk around towns like Monmouth, Abergavenny or Chepstow it really is great to meet the hardworking small business owners who provide vital services and jobs for local residents.
“We can all do our bit to champion the uniqueness and flavour that these excellent entrepreneurs, tradespeople, food producers, shop keepers and retailers bring to the area.”
