Democracy came to the classroom at two Monmouth schools last week as part of an annual UK-wide programme of events that aims to connect people with Parliament.
Local MP David Davies was invited to speak to pupils at Osbaston Primary School and The Grange to mark the start of Parliament Week (14-20 November 2014).
At both schools, he delivered his popular ‘A Day in the Life’ talk - a behind the scenes look at the workings of Westminster which details what MPs get up to in their constituencies, as well as in London.
The students then put the MP through his paces by asking questions that ranged from his salary and role as chair of the Welsh Affairs Committee to what his main policies would be if he were Prime Minister.
Mr Davies also met with members of the school council at Monmouth Comprehensive School, who are being consulted on plans to replace the existing school with a brand-new building.
“Parliament Week is a good opportunity to help schools learn more about the history of Parliament and the work MPs do,” he said.
“I am often told that more can be done by politicians to reach out to young people and I agree entirely, which is why I thoroughly enjoy giving these talks.
“They are a great way of engaging pupils with democracy and it is refreshing to listen and exchange views about the issues that matter to them.”
